When James got home from school yesterday I found a rock in his backpack. I thought nothing of it and just put it back. To me it did not look special. It wasn't shiny or sparkly. Just a brown rock.

While I was at work, I believe James explained to his dad that he took the rock from his science center at school because he really wanted to show me. oops. Josh explained that because James did not ask to bring the rock home, that it was stealing. Que the tears and devastation.

James was so afraid of his punishment at school. They have good behavior -green, moderate-yellow, and bad-red.

James has been on green since the first day of school! (Woot) He just knew that he would have to move it to yellow since he did something wrong. Dad explained we didn't care about the yellow, as long as he told the truth.

While walking to school today James held tight to that rock. Explaining to me that he accidentally stole it, and what he was going to tell his teacher. I told him there's no such thing as accidentally stealing something. He should know from now on, if he really likes something he should just ask to bring it home, etc.

We couldn't find his teacher this morning, so I'm not sure if she's even there. I left him with the rock telling him, what he should do.

I'll keep you posted.

First day

Just a report on James first day. While waiting to pick him up. I'm feeling more like a mom than usual. I have experienced several stages in my kids lives where I feel more like a mom than other times. One other was when the kids were being rambunctious at bed time and I had to tell them to settle down or else. Just these weird pictures of me doing something that I may or may not remember my mom or dad doing, then bam it's me, I'm a parent, weird.
So I wait. Tell them who I'm picking up. Wait. Make it all the way to the front of the line. Notice a slew of kids standing outside but my child is not. Yikes! I see the principle she asks who I'm picking up. James......then I see James teacher go inside 5 minutes later out comes James with a monster grin.
Hops in the car and away we go.
Mom some kids ate in the cafeteria.
Well where did you eat?
In the cafeteria, butI want the schools lunch!
Really? Well I'll look into that. How was your day?
Good. I have 2 new friends. And a new girlfriend.
Oh boy. That's great.
What did you do after lunch?
So and so was having a hard time listening today. But he was helpful so it was better.
Oh.
I ate all my lunch. But some lady threw my chips away before I was finished. I said hey! I was gonna eat those!
Well make sure if you still want your food to put it back in your lunchbox.
Yeah.

I couldn't get much out of him after that. Just a few things scattered throughout the day. I do know that I heard not a peep from his room as soon as we shut the door. Kindergarten must be tiring.

We took our baby boy to kindergarten today. Ahhhhhhhhh!
Yes I'm feeling sad about that. I enjoy spending time with him and realize now that 5 years have just blown by.
I am so excited to hear of his first day.
I also made a checklist for him so he would know exactly what to do this morning. He really loves checking things off and making lists. I never had to say go do that, do this. Blah blah. Let's hope he keeps this up! Now little miss wants one too!

James turned 5! And it was awesome. He's had a bout of incidences lately. Busted lip and chin from tripping in our backyard. A round with the rotavirus. And hrs come out on top each time. Turning 5 is hard work. His party is soon so I'll be back to share about that.

We went to the park today. It was a gravel park. Scarlett is a let's roll around on the ground kind of girl. Therefore rocks were everywhere so I wasn't surprised when we getting her ready for a nap and rocks fell from her jeans all over the hardwood floor. When I took off her underwear more rocks fell down. She said, " what was that?" I said,"rocks" she replied, "in my butt?" and proceeded to do a few deep squats to get the rest of them out.

Scarlett tried a new do for a bit. She's obsessed with Rapunzel and wanted to try straight hair. Lately at bedtime I've been turning on their humidifier to help with the dryness of the heater. Well after straightening Scarlett's hair on this night, I hear a thud and crying coming from her bedroom. So I run in there in a sleepy stupor. They had turned the humidifier on Rainforest. It was so smokey I could barely see Scarlett climbing back in her bed. The floor was wet, she was getting out of her bed and slipped on the floor and fell. Now because they turned the humidifier on full blast, her hair had turned curly. As I'm asking her if she's ok. She tells me her hair is not like Rapunzel anymore.

The kids and I went to Target a few weeks ago just to look and get some ideas.
James has written Santa and asked for a blue PowerRanger. Well I just so happened to find one, and it was on sale..so I shoved it under my purse in the cart and moved along. No where along this trip to Target did he let on that he saw me pick up or purchase this gift.

Yesterday we saw Santa at one of our favorite play places, James told Santa that we wanted a red PowerRanger. I asked him later why he asked Santa for that, because he so clearly wanted the blue one,(at this point I was freaking that I had bought the wrong one)
He told me that he would like a red one because he already has a blue one at home. oops.

bad attitude

sometimes in the car i will let james and scarlett watch a movie on our portable dvd player. this particular day we were riding in the car, james and scarlett had, had a rather rough morning. after asking if he could watch a movie, i explained that he wouldn't get to because he had been naughty and we would not watch any movies in the car that day. (pretty clear huh?)
again he asked, i explained a little less patiently, that no, we would not be watching a movie in the car because of his bad attitude. he asks again....i say very loudly now, "NO WE WILL NOT BE WATCHING ANY MOVIES TODAY, YOU HAVE HAD A BAD ATTITUDE, AND NOT OBEYED MOMMY, BAD ATTITUDE MEANS NO MOVIES, I'VE SAID THAT 3 TIMES NOW, DON'T ASK AGAIN!"

2 minutes later scarlett declares..wanna watch a movie? james interjects, "no baby sis, mommy says that i haf a bad attitude and that we won't watch any movies in the car, thats what she says."
no more questions...just silence in the car, and of course this...... pouting??

Once October rolls around, I find it very hard explaining to James and Scarlett that Halloween isn't for a few more weeks. After all Target is all decorated for Halloween, it should be right around the corner, right?

Instead of waiting, they've been dressing up almost everyday. And I'm not kidding you, James can often be found wearing his Superman shirt. Their mommom made them some costumes too. James has an awesome cape, and Scarlett is our little gypsy girl.

time really does fly, i believe it. today my little sunshine, scarlett was born in the wee hours of the morning, on her u.joels bday. and now she's 2. she's going potty on the toilet. she has her likes her dislikes and really nothing in between. she's a lover of her brother james, and her daddy. her bubba, her poppas. and even sometimes me. she likes to get her own shoes on, even if they are on the wrong feet. she would eat pretzels until she turned slightly brown with specks of salt on her. loves 'pretties'(dresses) and veggie booty. she puts a smile on your face and will melt any icey heart with a flutter of her lashes. happy birthday baby girl. we wove you!

This is James and his teacher on the first day of school. This pic was even taken at the end of the day, so I think its good that they're both smiling. True to form though, James has my photo taking genes. If you know me or anyone else in my family we always close our eyes for photos. Some very important photos too, weddings, and graduations, first days of school..James is no exception. You say "cheese" our eyes instantly close. He had a great day and I think that I was more excited for him than he was. I know that he's going to change right before our eyes.

I know that I am a mom. But now I officially feel like one. The kids are in their beds and I could hear someone pounding on their bedroom wall with a foot, I open the door, and with my best 'mommy' voice ask, "who is kicking the wall?" James replies, "its little miss." sure enough I peek my head around and see the culprit with her legs up and her feet on the wall. I turn her around, and say, "we do not kick the wall." and then give her a little kiss on the cheek and shut the door.

I remember as a kid sharing a room with my sister, giggling, or tickling eachother, just being silly. And then my big, bad, mean dad would come and tell us to knock it off. And my sister and I would be so angry at him, saying to ourselves, "whats the big deal? we're just having some fun!" So now i ask myself...what's the big deal you mean ole mom?

Start praying for us now...Scarlett is a full-blown teenager at 1.5 years old.
In my head I keep saying maybe if she's like this now..when she actually is a teenager it won't be so bad. Well, from what I'm hearing from other moms of girls, this is common, and no it won't be likely that she'll be a 'different' teenager. I know that consistency is key, but when this child cries, er scratch that throws an awful it, I must persevere and do what I know is right, and not convenient. I do know that this little girl can love so greatly and cuddle so lovely, and kiss so sweetly.

At the park, James finds a rolly polly, (pill bug). He really likes these things, they will crawl up and down his arm, and he says, "it tickles!"

While playing with one it rolls up into a little ball. Well James wants to 'help' open it up. So he does and it gets ripped in half. I watch him look at the halves in both hands, and he says, "Momma I bwoke duh wolly polly."
I said, "oh yeah buddy you sure did, lets try to be careful with them ok?"

At James' 3 year old check-up today, we encountered a vision test, a hearing test and a flashing.
Yes, thats right, I said flashing. I still can't believe it, and I was there!
The Dr. was going through a round of questions for him, "Does he like his baby sister?" "can you draw a circle?" "what's your favorite color?"
She asked one final question, "Are you a boy or a girl?" James looks at the Dr., "I'm James."
She says, "I know you're James but I want to know if you're a boy or a girl." He then proceeds to pull down the front of his underwear showing her....with a fright I quickly pull up his underwear....giggling the Dr, sweetly says, "I know that you are a boy, I just wanted you to tell me." She looks at me and says,"I know laughing will provoke this, but that is very funny." I laughed and agreed, muttering something about boys.
But OH BOY!

My little guy turns 3! He is by far the coolest, sweetest, most fun loving kid. I'm so delighted to be his mom. Happy Birthday bubba!

I remember being a little concerned when I found out Scarlett was going to be a girl. I worried that she and James wouldn't get along as well as 2 boys. Now I know thats just plain silly. It seems each day they're finding new ways to make eachother giggle and I just love it. This morning Scarlett handed James a book and said "read!" he replied, "thats a book baby sis you want me to read it for you?" they then proceeded to flip through the pages together.
In the car today I asked James to say Scarletts name, he said babysis. I said can you say her name though? again he said babysis. I asked him if he would always call her that and he smiled and said yes, babysis.
Today we were crossing the street and I had my hands full. I asked James to hold Scarletts hand, he happily obliged. So sweet.

Josh took the kids to Mt Bonnell one evening, actually he took Superman and Scarlett. It got pretty chilly so Daddy let Scarlett borrow his t-shirt....

Bubble fun

Oh bubbles, Target has this new brand that all you have to do is squeeze the bottle and the wand shoots up and you blow, so theres supposedly no messy bubble juice hands...yeah right. I couldn't even use this thing w/o getting bubble juice all over me. I think the funnest thing for James was pouring the bubbles out and spreading his hands in it on the dirty asphalt. oh well when it came time to wash his hands all I had to do was add water, I mean the soap was already there. (Scarlett was napping otherwise, we'd have much more bubble juice on the ground)

This is extreme glee on his face. After his haircut a few weeks ago, James realized that his hair could do this....We have a very dear friend who's hair also spikes up, no where near the extreme of this. But as soon as James saw himself like this, he immediately recognized on his own that he looked like Dave. And he was so happy about that. So here you go Dave, you are cool with your spiked hair and James wants to be like you.

Today we went to the park, Josh took a sick day from work, he was sick all weekend and had some residual yuckiness today. The kids had a blast, I on the other hand had just bent over to pick James up so we could leave, stood up and walked right into a tree. Nailed me right in the head. My first reaction was, what was that and why didn't I see it? What a moron. I like to embarrass myself often, this seems to be happening more and more lately.

Emergency Room take 2

Monday we headed into the ER to make sure James' foot was ok after he took a monster leap off a step. After 2 hours and an X-ray, he's good, just a stressed Planter Fascia and calf muscle. So with a little limping he'll get along.
Wednesday we headed to the ER again after James pulled something down off the bookshelf and it landed on his lip. After 3.5 hours, 3 stitches and 2 popsicles(1 for Scarlett of course) We've got one very tough boy. He amazes me at how tough he is, and resilient. Thank God.

Did that really just happen?

About a month ago, our family went to a different church, that was 1, starting later than our regular church service, since we had overslept that morning 2, closer to our house and 3, we're always driving by it and wondering what it would be like to go.

Upon arriving, I'm keenly aware that I am one of the only women there that is not wearing a dress, does not have hair past her shoulders, and wears makeup. I mention this to my husband, who was somewhat unaware, because as we're walking in, he's keenly aware that he is one of the only males that is not wearing a suit and tie, even young boys are wearing suit and ties??
We take our kids to Sunday school. And as I'm walking to attend the service, I'm wondering if I'm going to return to a freshly shorn James head.(yikes) And Scarlett wearing a dress too.

Now please don't get me wrong, I love a man in a 3 piece suit and ladies in dresses, I'm not in any way making fun. I'm sure that they were having enough fun looking at me feeling quite uncomfortable not fitting in.

Worship was interesting, hymns, which I LOVE!

The sermon lasted well over an hour and a half....causing us to lose interest several times. during one point in the service, the pastor has asked us to open our bibles to Hebrews something or other, well we forgot our bibles. G-R-E-A-T! A woman sitting next to Josh leans over and says, "Here, you can borrow mine, I've got an extra one....do you know where Hebrews is?"

(voices in head) Lady if you only knew, my husband could educate you a little on where Hebrews is, why it was written, when it was written, who it was written for, and even where it was written.
He calmly takes the bible from her and we both try to suppress our giggles!

We speak to a few people, grab our kiddos and hightail it outta there. Mentioning something about a time warp and amazing that a church like that is here in South Austin.

You know those info cards they give you at those churches? Well I filled one out. Not thinking that there would be any follow up on it. Well, people, they follow-up.

This morning while Scarlett was napping, Josh had taken James to the guitar store, and I was still in my ugly robe, when I heard a knock on our door. I open it and lo and behold, Its the worship leader from that very same church and his young daughter.(in Sunday best of course, which must be Saturday best also). Just stopping by to say hello, and telling of some changes going on at the church presently. I thanked him for stopping by, said goodbye, shut the door, went to the bathroom and saw this.....

What a riot!

James is talking more and more everyday, sometimes we understand and sometimes, we have no earthly idea what hes talking about. We were at Chik-fil-a a few days ago, and there were 2 boys there a little older than James. But they became instant buds. I overheard the boys asking what James' name was....and his reply, "I'm Names." I think they were confused so they kept right along playing. Awhile later, I hear them again, 'whats your name?' 'Names'. 'What?' 'Names', 'hey, what is your name?' I hear James yell 'NAMESSSSSSSSSSSSSS' I interject and say, 'His name is James, hes saying James'. 'Oh' they say. And continue their playing.

This is James preparing to shave. He got a little shaving kit for Christmas and shaves almost everyday. After applying the foam it seems his mouth becomes paralyzed, he will barely move his mouth to talk, I guess for fear that the foam will come off.

My mom is known for being quite silly.
I can recall as a kid, my sister and I
telling her often that she was weird.
Well this is another weird thing she does, my kids love when she squirts canned whipped cream in their mouths. It is rather funny, their little mouths open like carp awaiting their treat. James my son, even gagged a few times. Pretty disgusting but very funny at the same time.
Just what mommoms are for.

Batman and the Kitty Cat

We went a birthday party a week ago, and the kids got their faces painted. I was amazed at how still they sat. Mostly staring at the lady painting their faces, and everyone staring at them. James now would like a permanent Batman emblem on his face. Since that is pretty much illegal for a 2 year old. I gave him a temporary tattoo today. Well, actually it was 3. One on his forehead, his nose and his cheek. Then about 3 more on his arm, one on his belly and one on his leg. So I guess that would make it 8.
I'll have to get a pic of that.

He's showing off his fireball here. He actually ate it. Once it started to get hot, I couldn't get him to take it out...he just kept saying "HOT"
Eventually he did take it out and it became a ball that he rolled all over the floor and got stuck under the couch numerous times.
